hi metcalf
glad to hear you enjoyed the trip. we go on OV2 14th oct 1 week tapas togas and wondered if you can throw a little more light on what to expect. It will be our first cruise and just do not know what to expect. taking our 12 year old daughter with us. would you say the decision to not do trips with them but do it yourself is better and far chealper?

Hi most of the ports are close to towns so you could go alone like in Genoa, Barcelona and the train is really handy at Villefranche to get to either Nice or Monaco or both if you like as they are not far away. Rome I would go on a trip we did Rome on our own for £36 each just because we wanted to mkae sure we got back to the boat in time You can get there by train for around 10 euros which a lot of people did. We didnt get out of the port at Tunis as as you try to leave you are hounded by Taxi drivers that are nearly fighting with the security at the port to get in - we and many others found this quite intimidating.
The only thing we found is there arent enough sun beds for everyone so days at sea are a little manic - leave your bed to nip to the loo and people are hovering ready to take it! We didnt see many children on the boat but the ones we did looked to be having a great time and lots of thing seemed to be organised for them. Hope you enjoy as much as we did !

Hi again thanks for your reply. LOTS OF QUESTIONS COMMING! We have been wondering about the Rome trip and I think now you have answered our question it seems safer to do this excursion with OV 2. Although slightly cheaper to go by train knowing you will get back in time for departure makes it safer. It does seem a bit of a distance from the port into Rome to chance this one alone. The others places we plan to stop off on route we plan to do ourselves, like Monaco and Barcelona.
Is the sun bed chore everyone gets up at 6 and stays there, on the day the ship not not dock?
Can you take any Alcohol on board? not that we are big drinkers we just wondered if a small bottle of spirit or wine (to have a drink in our room before dinner) put in our bag is a waste of time and an insult to OV2? We are happy to buy on board providing the duty free is not too expensive. Is there a wine package and is it worth the deal?
Did you eat in the waiteress service dinning places, and can you recommend the one you preferred if you did? Thanks for taking time to read and help us on our forth comming cruise. Sally

Hi if you are caught taking alcohol on board it would be kept until you disembark at the end of your holiday - you could probably get away with it if it was in your suitcase. Each time you return to the boat your items go through a scanner. There was a wine package availble 6 bottles for around £35 i think which you could have in your room or at your table - We didnt think the prices for alcohol were much different to home £2.80 for a pint of stella and short were around the same but a better measure.
If you smoke wait till you board the ship as 200 cigs were about £14.50 much cheaper than at Palma airport. You could by bottles of spirits in the shop and I think they added £5 for you to take to your room. We ate at both La Luna and The Bistro both were very good the surroundings were really nice and to have your food served to your table was a treat after being in the main buffet which if you picked the wrong time could be a "feeding frenzy" we tended to wait till around 8 30 and it had become a little quieter.
Please dont be put off because there was very little to comp[lain about really we had a great time and thought it was super value for money. With so many people on board they coped very well. Let me know how you enjoy your trip!
