Book on Ocean Village with caution

Cruise Ship: Ocean Village Two Sailed: October, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 56-65
I have just returned from a cruise in the mediterranean on Ocean Village 2.
Ocean Village state in their brochure that their cruises are designed for 30 to 50 year olds. This group of people are not evident on the ship, the majority of people were in the 50 to 60 group, with many in the 60 to 80 group, their were hardly any people in the 30-50 group.
Ocean Village are fully aware that the age group they had aimed for are not booking holidays with them and that the more elderly passengers are, and so they are catering to their needs. They should be more honest!
You must give top marks to Ocean Village for cleanliness, food, crew, organisation and professionalism. If these are your primary concerns then Ocean Village ticks all the boxes.
However, this ship has attracted a certain type of customer and if you are not of that particular type, you will probably not enjoy this ship. There is nothing wrong with the lifestyle of this type of passenger, but if you are not the same as them, then you are not going to enjoy the experience of sailing on this ship. The type of passenger that I am referring to is the sort of person that you would have previously met in Magaluf or Palma Nova. They have simply moved from shore to ship.
The entertainment was course and vulgar at times, although the group that I keep referring to seemed to enjoy it.
Also, I have never seen so many obese people crowded together in my life.
If this is your first experience of cruising, then keep an open mind as other cruise ships are different.
I still enjoyed the cruise. We met a lovely couple from the North of England (90% of the passengers were from the north) and spent virtually the whole week with them.

Hi Gerald you are from the south and you sailed on OV2 just recently with us and we are from kent and we thought we were the only ones from the south? Did you have a great time. were you on the delay 5 hrs in Palma airport to get home? we were what a wait! We met most people from up north /scotland / cardiff lovely people we chatted to a few but mainly just the two of us. Our daughter made 15 new friends from all over the country ( she is chatting to them on Beebo as I speak). We loved the week Entertainement questionable but hey it must be difficult to please all. We will sail with OV ships again really for the value of the holday price. PS where do most of the south Holiday? The southern people tend to be very few on the holidays we take. Sally

I travelled with OV with my family in July this year in the age group 40 to 50 with two teens and had a great time, looking at booking again for next year. Your ages are shown as 50 to 60 so am sure you will be able to join a Saga trip soon......

Having cruised on OV 11 in September ,I would like to comment on the age group of those travelling. At the age off 55 (and I have never been to Magaluf or Palma Nova) i choose my dates of travelling to avoid school holidays, my children are at University. However those of a younger age group may well have children at school and therefore unable to travel during term time and this time ma appeal to the older person. Your attitude sounds very poor, are you suggesting those from "up North" only appreciate vulgar ,course humour and reduced standards? You should have gone with some other line where your snobbish attitude would have felt at home. From a Scot living in Midlands.

I have'nt been on this ship yet, but wherever you go on holiday you will meet people from all walks of life and I fail to see where they went on holiday before or whether they are thin or fat as got anything to do with how you enjoyed your holiday. Maybe you need to get out more.

I'm confused, you state OV is marketed at the 30 - 50 age group & appear to be miffed that the majority were in the 50 - 60 age group that OV are catering for & yet your own ages are displayed as 56 - 65. Sorry I'm still confused. Regards

I think it may be something to do with the time of year you went, we went just a few weeks earlier in September and was a real mix of people on board, quite a few young couples with young children. We never like public entertainment, no interest in it at all so simply didnt go to the shows but sat outside or in Casbah with a glass of wine and a book.
